Notes
L. 1. (For -àndhakàraì) The anusvara is misplaced, being engraved on
the left of the akøara ra and not above it as usual. Dikshit: -d-avatiøòhatå.
L. 2. Dikshit: smanidhi- (instead s-sa-nidhis-).
L. 3. Dikshit: vðddha-daíäacakråí. The expression sa-bàla-vðddha, probably employed
to indicate the involvement of some other younger and elderly members of the family in the
grant, is not met with in any other Ùarabhapurèya record.
L. 4. Dikshit dèkøità-; atisðøòa kî; tàmmraùàsanå-.
L. 5. Dikshit proposes to correct it to upalabhyaiøàjãà- which is wrong and
unwarranted. The donee being only a single individual, asya, used in the charter, and not
eøàì, suggested by Dikshit, would be the correct expression. Dikshit has left out the
letter dhå (in vidhå) in his transcript though the same is quite clear in the facsimile
and is required.
L. 6. Dikshit: bhótvà; prativatsyathaõ.
L. 7. Dikshit: m-anudarùayati; dànà.
L. 8. (For niùcita-dhi)There is a superfluous stroke attached to the base of the circle
indicating medial i in the aksharas ùci and dhi. Superfluous strokes, sometimes dots, are
found at the bottom of a few other letters also. Dikshit reads: dharmmaõ but the two
horizontal strokes after rmmaì actually indicate the mark of punctuation.
L. 9. Dikshit: matir=åva. Dikshit reads gîptaõ and suggests to correct it to gîptam.
L. 10. Dikshit: r=apyåøà. (For gètà)The box-head of g is left out unengraved. There
is a superfluous stroke before tra (in atra). There is superfluous appendage below the
letter dà (in udà-).
L. 11. Dikshit: suvarííaõ. But the two short horizontal strokes are actually intended
to indicate a mark of punctuation which is, however, superfluous. Dikshit:
bhór=vvaiøíavå.
L. 12. Dikshit: sutàstha. There is an unnecessary stroke to the left of the letter gà
(in gàì), The verse is incomplete. At least two more stanzas must have followed it as
indicated by the employment of the plural number.
