Notes
L. 2. DS has -vimb-àbhighàta-
L. 7. DS has -bal-à[r*]jjit-î[r]jita-; AMS in notes: read -balàrjjitîrjita-.
L. 9. DS has bràhmaíàni(íàn); AMS in notes: read bràhmaíàn
L. 14 (For |) The mark of punctuation is indicated by a couple of horizontal strokes
placed one above the other. (AMS)
L. 18. (For |) The mark of punctuation is constituted by a single horizontal stroke which
is quite clear in the plate though it has escaped the attention of Sircar and
Bhattacharya. Note that this verse is not met with in any Sarabhapuriya record.
L. 22. Read majjati.
L. 23. (For 1) If this taken to be a mark of punctuation, the preceding symbol may stand
for 4 also. But the reading of the sign as 1 is no doubt preferable. It appears that the
long rule of Pravara I explains the shortness of the reigns of the other members of the
family from Jaya to Pravara II. (DS) Sircar and Bhattacharya point out that if the second
symbol is taken to be a mark of punctuation, the preceding symbol may stand for 4 also.
They, however, prefer to read both the symbols together as 41. It is likely that the year
is indicated in accordance with the decimal notation involving the invention of zero, the
first symbol standing for 4 and the second for 1. Some others are inclined to read the
year as 4. (AMS)
