Notes.
L.1 Diòòham : this word is usually taken to be a Pràkðtic equivalent
of the Skt. dðøòam, 'seen'. See El, I, pp. 9-10; EHD, p. 196. Also see El, III, p. 259;
VI, p. 88; IX, p. 268; Bha .......mipàd : The seven letters which are lost here may be
restored as -gavac-Chrèparvvata-svà-;..mipàd: the letter pà has an unnecessary
ó-màtra (SN).
L.2 [gî]trîtprabhavasya: read gotrat=prabhavasya or gîtr-îdbhavasya; Gîvi..........:
the four letters that are lost here obviously -ndavarmmaíaõ. Only the u-màtrà of the
following só is visible (SN).
L.3 Tai..... : the broken portion seems to have consisted of only three letters which
might have been originally øyàm=atu (SN).
L.4 Vålpóru[då]: only the proper right part of the letter de is visible. It is likely
that the intended reading is deùam; -[mukhà]... the two akøaras that are lost here are
obviously vàpta (SN).
L.7 .......ku[íò]yadhi : these doubtful letters suggest here an expression like
Viøíukunäyadhiràja as found in No. V, line 13; .gandha-[ga]..: originally dta
was engraved. This partly available expression here reminds us of the epithet
nðpati-gandhagaja of the Western Chalukya Kèrttivarman I in the Aihole inscription. (El,
VI p. 5, verse 10) (SN).
L.8 ...rutî[ùà].tî : the intended reading is probably màrutaõ ùàsitè (SN).
L.10 ..gatavàn [|*] a[tr=ai]va : the reading of trai is doubtful (SN).
L.13 ....nti[i]mukta : Dantimukha is intended here since Vinàyaka is mentioned in line 16
(SN).
L.14 ...... ùata..... here ùata-sahasraì hiraíyaì seem to be the intended expression
(SN).
L.15 .... vijayån=n= : the intended reading is perhaps "evaì-vijayån=n=ànðtaì,
which may mean "(it is) not untrue (that one doing) like this, shall be
victorious" This is perhaps intended to be a phala-ùruti. Here we have a rare
parasmaipada form of the root ji following the preposition vi. Cf. Viparàbhyàì jåõ
(PA, l,iii, 19); =ca] nðpasy=à[.] : the intended expression here seems to be -sy=àjãà
or -sy=àrthå (SN).
L.15-16 Sthàpitaã=ca etc. may be a verse in Anuøòubh metre (SN).
