L.3 For the six kinds of abhijãà and for different views regarding the meaning of the
word see BD, p. 106 ff.; Pràtihàrya (Pàli paòihàriya) means 'magic' or 'miracle'.
When it is used with darùana or dåùanà 'sermon', it signifies the magic of
mindreading. Cf. Dåùanà Lîkanàthanàì sattvàùaya-vaùànugàõ of the
Bîdhichittavivaraía quoted in the Bhàmatè under Br. S. II, ii, 18. For the other two

L.4 Abhiprasàda means 'faith'. Cf. Buddha-ùàsanàbhiprasàdàrtham (Divyàvadàna,

L.19 sàtmèbhóta, 'beneficial to oneself'. Cf.Sàtmyam=iti 'àtma-sukhaì yat=karîti
tad=ucyatå (Dàlhaía's commentary under Suùrutasaìhità, Ch. XXXI, verse 41) (SN).
L.21 =abhiprajàtàyà : read abhiprajàtayà. cf. the usage ùabdam kuryuõ prajàtà
prajàtà dhanyaì dhanyaì putram=iti in the Charakasaìhità, ùarèrasthàna, (Chapter
VIII, sect. 40, p. 348). Here in the present record the queen is described to have given
birth under the pretext of a son (suta-chchhalåna) to the very heap of virtues etc.,
bearing the name Màdhavaràja. Cf. nðpa-chchhalåna kiì Viøíuõ daitya-jiøíur=ayaì
svayam in a Kadamba charter (EI, XXXIII, p. 90, verse 5). So here there is no reference to
any adoption of Màdhavaràja by Vikramåndravarman II (Cf. JIH, XLIII, p. 737). For the
untenable views that this Màdhavaràja was a son or a cousin brother of
Vikramåndravarman II himself see the Bhàrati, 1967, November p. 37 and JlH, L, p. 5 ff.

L.28-29 Here the construction Gîvindaràjasya +++ a-viøayèkðta-manîrathàyà with a
s-àpåkøa-samàsa may be compared with a similar construction a-praviøòa-viøayasya
rakøasàì dvàratàm=agamad=Antakasya tat (Raghu. XI, verse 18). Here the passage in our
record tells us in a poetic way that on account of Paramabhaòòàrikà, Gîvindaràja did
not crave for Ùrè (goddess Lakømè) having corporeal body. It is a way of saying
Paramabhaòòàrikà was Gîvindaràja's wife. Cf. JIH. XLIII, p. 746 (SN).
L.31 -saìvatsar-aikàdaùå : read saìvatsara åkàdaùå. Irundîâî : this name has
been read as Èruíäoðo (Bhàrati, 1965 July, pp 6 ff) and as Iruíäerî (JIH, Vol.
XLIII, pp. 733 ff.) (SN).

L.43-45 The metres of these two verses (No5-6) are respectively Ùàrdólavikrèäita and
Upajàti. The fifth plate of the set is left unengraved (SN).
