No. 26. Kanheri Buddhist cave inscription. Prakrit.
The inscription is on the right hand side-wall, outside the verandah of Cave No. 80. It is deeply cut. The upper three lines and a part of the next two lines have been peeled off. It measures 82 cm x 1.12 m. Letters 4 cm. x 4 cm. Characters: Brāhmč 200 AD. Language: Prakrit. Orthography: the letters 'ta' and 'na' have the same form. In line No. 1, West has copied the word 'Saghasa' but at present these letters are not in existence. (ShG) |
