No. 15. Kanheri Buddhist cave inscription. Prakrit. Buhler - time of Gotamiputra Siri Yaãa-Satakarni.

The inscription is one the left hand side wall outside the verandah of Cave No. 32 over a large water tank. it measures 1.71 m. x 1.10 m. Letters: 7.5 cm. x 6.5 cm. Characters: Bràhmè, 2nd A.D. Language: Prakrit. Orthography: The letters are deeply cut, distinct and display the characteristics of the period. (ShG).

Lu: - A cave (låía), a water-cistern (pàíiyapîähè), benches for sitting on (àsaíapåähikà), a chair (? pidha) and a walk (chakama), the gift of the merchant (någama) Dhama . . . (Dharma . . . ), son of Sivamita (Ùivamitra), the Kàliya[íaka] (inhabitant of Kalyàía), together with Budhaka (Buddhaka) and his whole family to the congregation of monks (bhikhusagha) of the four quarters. Also endowment. Also gift of a house with two apartments (bagabha or bigabha) and of a quadrangular dining-hall (bhîjanachàtusàla) in the vihàra at Kàliyaía (Kalyàía) in the Gaìdhàrikàbhamè. Endowment for these, viz. a house (nivåsaía) in the Mukuäasivayivà.
