No. 43. Kanheri Buddhist cave inscription. Prakrit.
The inscription is on the right hand side-wall outside the verandah cave No. 26. It is above a recess over a tank. It is faintly cut on a tablet surrounded by an ornamental border. The surface of the inscription is corroded. It measures 53 cm. x 69 cm. Letters 5 cm. x 5 cm. Characters: Bràhmè, 3rd Century A.D. Language: Prakrit. Orthography: The letters are of peculiarly ornamental style differenting from all other inscriptions at Kanheri. (ShG) |
